There's something magical about merging two elements of forgotten local history. We recently encountered an inspiring project that elevated upcycling and local preservation to a new level. A local resident came to our shop with a unique request—to frame the original blueprints of their family home. Marc had the perfect solution: use an antique window frame salvaged from another local home. This project went beyond typical art projects, becoming a profound statement about our community's architectural heritage.
The frame is a sturdy, double-paneled wooden window. Layers of paint from various decades give it a weathered, lived-in look, reminiscent of many local homes. It still holds the memory of the view it once framed before being removed from its original setting.
The artwork features delicate original architectural blueprints—technical and beautiful drawings that outlined the construction of an Arcadian home. When carefully matted and mounted behind the glass of the old frame, the result is stunning. The windowpanes naturally divide the blueprint, while the patina of the worn window frame adds a tangible layer of authenticity to the crisp lines of the original design.
These pieces not only complement each other visually but are now preserved and celebrated. This creates a truly unique piece that tells a deep, localized story—far more interesting than anything store-bought.
If you have access to local salvage, architectural rescue, or even just old pieces lying around, look for ways to combine them. Sometimes the best way to honor the past is to give its pieces a brand-new purpose, creating a beautiful, shared narrative right on your wall.
