Breathing New Life into Old Treasures

There's something enchanting about taking an old, forgotten, and slightly damaged item and transforming it into a vibrant, cherished piece. It's not just about saving money or being eco-friendly (though those are great benefits!). It's about creativity, connection, and the joy of reimagining. Sometimes, you come across an old, broken, neglected piece that resonates with you, reminding you that it still has life beneath the layers of dirt, paint, and repairs.

Marc and I have had the pleasure of collaborating on several pieces, including this delightful child's chair and heart-shaped footstool. We discovered them in the back room of a thrift store, beneath layers of use and repair... simply waiting for a new purpose, and we knew exactly what they needed: a splash of cheer! What was once an overpainted white set hidden in the back of a thrift store became a project of stripping, sanding, and reinventing. With some paint and a touch of imagination, it became our "Pink Lemonade" set—a bright, whimsical duo ready to bring smiles.

Working on projects like this together has been incredibly rewarding. It's not about the finished product—it's about the process. We get to team up and brainstorm ideas, sometimes debate (playfully, of course), learn new skills, and support each other every step of the way. There's a unique bond that forms when you're both covered in paint, laughing at a mishap, and then stepping back to admire something beautiful you've created together.

Upcycling isn't just about furniture; it's about perspective. It teaches you to see potential where others might see junk. It encourages resourcefulness and fosters a deep appreciation for the items we bring into our homes. And when you do it with someone you love, it becomes a shared memory—a tangible representation of your teamwork and creativity.

So next time you see a discarded piece of furniture, don't just walk by. Stop, imagine, and perhaps with a loved one by your side, you too can breathe new life into an old treasure. You might be surprised at the beauty you create and the joy you find in the process.

We hope by continuing to save neglected pieces, we can add functional art to our gallery floor for those who want decor but prefer to splurge on more practical pieces that serve additional purposes. Stop by Pletcher's on Monroe and see some of the amazing pieces Marc and I have recreated over the past year or so, like this adorable child's set.
