Two Sides - One Coin

If you've ever visited our gallery, Pletcher's on Monroe, you've likely sensed a certain dynamic. That's us - Marc and Kathy Pletcher, the husband-and-wife duo behind it all. Let me tell you, running a business, especially an art gallery, is quite the adventure when you're as different as we are.

Marc, my brilliant husband, is the quiet force and artistic soul. He's the one with the steady hand and meticulous eye, often lost in thought, sketching ideas, or carefully curating new pieces. His personality reflects his art - thoughtful, conservative in its quiet strength, and deeply focused. When he's in his element, the outside world fades away. It's a wonderful trait for an artist, ensuring every brushstroke and every placement in the gallery is intentional and beautiful.

Then there's me. I'm the... well, the slightly louder, more energetic half of this duo. My mind races at a million miles an hour, buzzing with marketing ideas, inventory lists, upcoming events, and about five other things at once. If Marc is the calm center, I'm the whirlwind of activity, handling the business side - the spreadsheets, the social media, the networking, and ensuring everything runs smoothly (or at least doesn't spontaneously combust).

You can probably imagine the daily dance at the gallery. Marc might be quietly contemplating his next brushstrokes, and I'll burst in, "Do you know where I put the bubble wrap? What about the tape? Oh, and I had a brilliant idea for an event, but wait, did I respond to that email about that painting?" My focus is broad and sometimes, let's be honest, a little scattered. A shiny new idea can send me off on a tangent faster than you can say "new resin art in the gallery."

But here's the magic: it works. His quiet focus grounds my boundless energy. My ability to juggle a dozen tasks (even if I get distracted by a particularly interesting dust bunny for a moment) keeps the gallery's wheels turning. He creates the beautiful world within these walls; I make sure the world outside knows about it and wants to come in. Together we review other artists who want to join our journey, and we each see different values in what they bring. We often joke that if you blended us into one person, you'd get a perfectly balanced gallery owner. But where's the fun in that? Our differences aren't just tolerated; they're celebrated. They push us, challenge us, and ultimately make Pletcher's on Monroe what it is - a vibrant space born from two very distinct, yet perfectly complementary, passions.

So next time you visit, you might catch Marc meticulously adjusting a painting on the wall or me excitedly chatting about our newest artist to join our gallery. Just know that behind every piece of art and every perfectly hung display, there's a story of two very different people, deeply in love, and absolutely dedicated to sharing the beauty of art with you. It's a beautiful mess, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
